We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Masakhane & Data Science for Social Impact (DSFSI) Micro-Grants Program 2025! 🚀

This is a grassroots initiative designed to fuel innovative NLP work. We believe the most powerful ideas come from within our communities, and we're putting resources directly into the hands of our pioneers to turn their visionary projects into tangible, open-source tools.

We are offering seven (7) micro-grants of $750 USD each!

Key Details:
💰 Micro-grant Value: $750 USD (disbursed upfront)
⏳ Project Duration: 3-4 months
🌍 Focus: Projects centered on African languages, with special consideration for extremely low-resourced languages in NLP, Speech, and Computer Vision.

🚀 Launch & Application Open: 27th October 2025
🗓️ Application Deadline: 1st December 2025

This is your call to build, create, and enrich our ecosystem. If you have been collaborating on a project that can add value to Africa’s NLP trajectory, we want to hear from you. We are especially excited to support projects that enable regional collaborations across the continent with this pilot.

Kindly note that this is a pilot microgrant programme that aims to provide nominal support in exploratory work for researchers, it is not an all encompassing grant for end to end development and will grow in future iterations.
