A bold new chapter in Africa’s digital transformation has begun with the launch of the AI Hub for Sustainable Development—a continental initiative that places African innovation, talent, and partnerships at the heart of global technological progress.
Spearheaded as part of the Italy-Africa Mattei Plan and aligned with the African Union’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy, the AI Hub is designed to be a collaborative ecosystem that nurtures groundbreaking ideas, builds foundational AI infrastructure, and delivers real-world solutions in key sectors: energy, agriculture, health, water, education and training, and infrastructure.
With 14 partner countries—Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Tanzania, and Tunisia—the Hub aims to catalyze inclusive development across the continent. Its mission is clear: to connect Africa’s innovators, startups, and governments in building the digital infrastructure, green computing capacity, localized data ecosystems, and skilled AI workforce needed to drive sustainable development.
Inspired by Enrico Mattei’s vision of equitable international partnerships, the AI Hub is not just a platform—it is a movement to ensure Africa’s digital future is shaped by Africans, creating prosperity and progress for all.
