The Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) is exploring the use of artificial intelligence and digital literacy to strengthen learning support across its libraries.

This follows the participation of a GhLA delegation, led by its Executive Director, in UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week in Paris, France.

The programme, held under the theme “Education in the Age of AI,” examined how artificial intelligence is changing education and the role of teachers in an increasingly digital learning environment.

Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, Professor Osman Tahidu Damba, shared Ghana’s perspective on the role of teachers in guiding the use of AI and policies to help educators integrate the technology into teaching.

The discussions have also prompted the GhLA to consider ways of expanding AI and digital literacy through its library services.

The authority says this could include helping teachers and learners access reliable learning materials, assess information critically, and use technology to support more personalised learning.

The GhLA says AI should complement the learning process rather than replace it, while helping make education more accessible, inclusive, and effective.
