The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS),has been awarded a highly competitive grant under the Africa AI Upskilling Programme. Notably, UBIDS is one of the four universities in Ghana to receive this award and the only university in Northern Ghana to do so. Funded by Google.org, the programme is implemented by the FATE Foundation in partnership with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and attracted applications from higher education institutions across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa.

This grant positions UBIDS within an exclusive network of institutions tasked with delivering advanced artificial intelligence education. They will utilise the esteemed Google DeepMind AI Research Foundations curriculum. The award provides crucial funding, world-class curriculum resources, and intensive training, thereby building lasting AI capacity within the University. This represents a significant achievement for both the institution and Northern Ghana.

Dr Muftawu Dzang Alhassan, Head of the Department of Informatics, led the successful bid and serves as the Institutional Lead for the programme at UBIDS. He is supported by a team of AI Champions from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT): Prof. Ishaque Mahama, Dr Yaw Afriyie, and Dr Fadilul-lah Issahaku, along with their dedicated Teaching Assistants. Following their successful application, the team recently completed an intensive in-person Train-the-Trainer workshop in Accra.They will now implement the curriculum for students, mentor them through AI-powered capstone projects addressing real
world challenges, and embed advanced AI education sustainably within the University's academic programmes.
This accomplishment reinforces UBIDS's growing reputation as a hub for digital innovation and solidifies the University's position among institutions shaping the future of artificial
intelligence on the continent.
